Madonna di Campiglio (dpa) - Linus Straßer won the last Ski World Cup before the short Christmas break with a top place in the slalom of Madonna di Campiglio.

The Munich ski racer came in sixth in the floodlit race in Italy on Tuesday.

He was only 0.54 seconds behind the winner Henrik Kristoffersen and improved significantly compared to 18th place on Monday in Alta Badia.

The Norwegian relegated his compatriot Sebastian Foss-Solevaag (+0.33) and the South Tyrolean Alex Vinatzer (+0.34) to their places.

As the second German in the final, Sebastian Holzmann came in 25th (+1.43).

After Christmas, it continues on Monday with a men's downhill run in Bormio and a giant slalom for women in Semmering.
