Hamburg (dpa / lno) - At its penultimate meeting this year, the Senate passed regulations on the requirement for solar roofs and the integration of renewable energies when replacing heating in Hamburg buildings.

According to the Climate Protection Act, photovoltaic systems must be installed on the roofs of new buildings from 2023 and at least 15 percent of the heat energy requirement must be met from renewables from the middle of next year when the heating is replaced.

Environment Senator Jens Kerstan (Greens) announced on Tuesday that details and exceptions would now be laid down in the first ordinance on the Climate Protection Act.

In order to achieve the Paris climate goals, Hamburg must also make great efforts.

"We can and must all make a significant contribution to the buildings through renewable electricity and climate-friendly heat," he said.

"Especially in densely built-up urban areas, it is important to use suitable areas, preferably several times."

According to the environmental authority, the photovoltaic obligation alone can save 60,000 tonnes of CO2 by 2030. The increased expansion of solar and modern heating systems also offers the opportunity, with a view to the economic and cyclical consequences of the corona pandemic, to address local and to strengthen the regional economy and added value and at the same time to advance the energy transition even faster.
