Esslingen (dpa / lsw) - When planning the rapid cycle route between Esslingen and Reichenbach (RS4) on the Fils, there is now a so-called preferred road.

The Ministry of Transport announced on Tuesday that it is 18 kilometers long, meets the quality standards of a cycle superhighway and is the most suitable compared to alternative routes.

During the selection, attention was paid, among other things, to a direct, detour-free and crossing-free tour.

The technical implementation of the route has already been checked, the compatibility with the landscape and environmental planning requirements is still being examined.

«The high-speed cycle route RS4 from Filstal into Neckar valley in the direction of Stuttgart is one of the most important cycling projects in the whole state.

It's good that we're making headway, ”said Transport Minister Winfried Hermann.

The rapid cycle route makes an important contribution to reducing the traffic load in the Neckar Valley and creates an environmentally friendly alternative for commuters, said District President Wolfgang Reimer.

At the beginning of 2021, the selected route is to be presented and discussed in the political committees of the cities and municipalities affected by the construction of the cycle expressway.

This is followed by the design planning.

The 1.3 kilometer section between Reichenbach and Ebersbach is also to be realized as a demonstration piece at the beginning of the route next year.
