Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - In the trial of the murder of the Kassel District President Walter Lübcke, the pleading of the Federal Prosecutor is expected on Tuesday.

In the proceedings before the State Security Senate of the Higher Regional Court (OLG) Frankfurt, the 47-year-old German Stephan Ernst has to answer for murder.

He is said to have shot Lübcke on the terrace of his house in June 2019.

He is also charged with attempting to murder an Iraqi refugee in January 2016.

Ernst's former work colleague Markus H. is charged with aiding and abetting in the process.

He is said to have influenced Ernst politically.

The Federal Prosecutor's Office assumes a right-wing extremist motive.

Lübcke had received hate mail and threats since 2015 because of his work in building a refugee shelter. His widow and two sons are taking part in the proceedings as joint plaintiffs.
