Erkrath (dpa / lnw) - After the fire in a 1500 square meter warehouse in Erkrath near Düsseldorf, the police assume damage of around 4.5 million euros.

The warehouse with wallpaper and painting supplies burned down on Monday, and parts of the building had to be demolished.

The criminal police have started investigations into the cause of the fire, said a police spokeswoman in Mettmann on Tuesday.

After inspecting the site of the fire, however, one is skeptical as to whether the cause can be determined.

The warehouse was completely destroyed in the fire.

The fire even raged on 3000 square meters on the two floors of the hall.

The fire brigade was busy with extinguishing work on Tuesday night.

There were still many embers under the collapsed ceiling structure of the hall.

Therefore, a carpet of fire-extinguishing foam should be brought over the rubble on Tuesday.

180 firefighters were on duty.
