Lübeck (dpa / lno) - With a confession by the accused father, the trial of the attempted killing of a 14-month-old boy began in Lübeck on Tuesday.

He was extremely sorry for the act and he was glad that his son had not suffered any permanent damage as things stand, said the 37-year-old tearfully at the start of the trial at the Lübeck district court.

He is accused of choking his son into unconsciousness on April 29th this year. He is said to have tried to break the child's neck. The little boy survived his father's attack. The man named the motive that he suffered from depression and anxiety disorders because of the corona pandemic. The trial is expected to continue on January 7th and a verdict is expected in February.
