Essen (dpa / lnw) - After a fatal shot at a SEK police officer, a drug dealer from Gelsenkirchen was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder on Tuesday.

The defendant shot on April 29, 2020 when officials stormed his home.

A shot had hit a 28-year-old police officer and fatally injured - despite a bulletproof vest.

The 29-year-old defendant had stated in the trial at the Essen district court through his defense lawyer that he had expected the attack by a rocker group from which he had previously been threatened.

The German, however, did not believe this.

"You are a police officer hater and wanted to kill a police officer," said Judge Jörg Schmitt.

The verdict is not yet legally binding.

The police wanted to carry out a search warrant for the defendant's home as part of a drug investigation. Because there should have been indications that the 29-year-old was armed, a special task force was called in.
