Frechen (dpa / lnw) - An alleged parcel delivery man and his two accomplices robbed a couple in Frechen (Rhein-Erft district) and stole a lot of cash and jewelry.

"We assume that it was not a random act," said a police spokesman on Monday.

With a package under his arm, the previously unknown man rang the doorbell of the couple on Friday evening.

The 52-year-old woman opened the door, whereupon the alleged parcel delivery man pulled out a gun and stormed into the apartment.

The two accomplices followed and asked the 53-year-old husband to open his safe.

The robbers would have stolen jewelry and cash in the low six-digit range.

The trio then fled in an unknown direction.

It had been the first case of this kind in the district so far, said the police spokesman.

The robbers would probably have known about the safe.

The investigation into the crime on Friday had only just begun.
