Dortmund (AP) - With six European champions and two international game debutants, the German handball players are traveling to the World Cup in Egypt.

National coach Alfred Gislason nominated his 20-man squad, which includes goalkeeper Andreas Wolff and field players Tobias Reichmann, Kai Häfner, Julius Kühn, Christian Dissinger and Jannik Kohlbacher, half a dozen EM players from 2016.

Sebastian Firnhaber and Antonio Metzner from HC Erlangen will be there for the first time.

The contingent is led by Captain Uwe Gensheimer.

In goal, Gislason relies on the veterans Johannes Bitter and Silvio Heinevetter in addition to Wolff.

The most prominent victim in the nomination was Patrick Groetzki.

The right wing of the Rhein-Neckar Löwen was not taken into account, as in the EM 2020.

In advance, seven players had already canceled their participation in the finals from January 13th to 31st - four of them voluntarily for family reasons.

The DHB selection will fly to Egypt on January 12th, where they will face Uruguay, World Cup newcomers Cape Verde and Hungary in the preliminary round.
