Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - According to its own statements, the state of Baden-Württemberg will achieve its goal of procuring five million rapid corona tests by the end of the year.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Health said on Monday there were already slightly more than 3.4 million rapid tests in the warehouse.

"We will get the rest of the delivery this week, so that by the end of this week and thus before the end of the year we will have achieved our goal of about five million purchased tests," the spokesman said.

The country had ordered the rapid tests as an emergency reserve. The state government had rejected allegations of taking too much time with the order. Health Minister Manne Lucha (Greens) announced in mid-November that the antigen tests could be used in large outbreaks in nursing homes or hospitals, for example. In addition, they are intended, among other things, for staff, residents or patients in nursing and medical facilities, medical practices and clinics.
