Erfurt (dpa / th) - The traditional Christmas Eve nativity scenes are being moved from the church to the Internet by several parishes this year.

For example, the evangelical church districts Bad Salzungen-Dermbach, Henneberger Land and Erfurt offer the Christmas story, which is usually rehearsed with amateur actors, in an online version, as a spokeswoman for the Evangelical Church in Central Germany (EKM) said on request.

A central EKM nativity play will be broadcast online on December 24th.

In the Catholic Heilbad Heiligenstadt in Eichsfeld, the Christmas story is read out in prayer outdoors.

The story of the birth of Jesus in a poor stable in Bethlehem is the Christian core of the Christmas festival and in normal times also attracts many non-denominational people to the churches on Christmas Eve.
