December 19, 2020The United States has added a new vaccine to its Covid-19 'arsenal', approving the Moderna / National Institutes of Health as an emergency.

The Food and Drug Administration has in fact given its approval, after it had already done so for Pfizer / BioNTech, while the country continues to count over 3 thousand deaths a day from the

coronavirus.

It is the first approval for the Pfizer-like Moderna vaccine, now being distributed to millions of healthcare workers and nursing home residents, in the largest vaccination campaign in US history.

Meanwhile, health officials who closely follow the possible side effects of the first Covid-19 vaccine authorized in the US say they have seen six cases of severe

reaction

on over 250,000 vaccines administered.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said more than 272,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine had been administered nationwide as of Saturday morning.

The half-dozen cases of allergic reaction were reported as of Friday evening and included a person with a history of vaccination reactions.

Health officials are closely monitoring these side effects.
