Cologne (dpa / lnw) - For the Cologne undertaker Christoph Kuckelkorn, the corona pandemic is clearly noticeable.

"We have a noticeable increase in corona deaths," said Kuckelkorn of the German press agency.

In such cases, dealing with the grieving relatives, who of course could also be infected, is complicated.

"You have to deal with the living with special care."

Distance, mask and the other hygiene rules are extra important, which does not make the grief work easier.

Fortunately, the regulations for burials in the cemetery are not as strict as in the first lockdown, when the number of participants was very limited. "Of course it is compulsory to wear a mask, of course the number of people in the mourning halls is reduced," said Kuckelkorn. "But you can stand with several people at a distance in front of the halls, and the funeral service is then broadcast acoustically there." It is difficult to keep your distance even at the grave. "Because that's where the emotions are naturally strongest."
