Darmstadt (dpa) - The Würzburger Kickers, who were badly plagued by Corona, clearly missed a surprise coup with their emergency cast.

Bernard Trares' team, with only 14 professionals left, lost 0: 2 (0: 0) at Darmstadt 98 on Saturday and so remains the last of the 2nd Bundesliga.

"It will not be a regular game, that's clear," Trares had already predicted on Friday.

The Kickers had to go to the game after four professionals were released from the corona quarantine.

There had been a corona case in the Franconian function team this week.

Tobias Kempe (55th minute) and Felix Platte (90th + 4) scored the goals in front of empty ranks due to the pandemic.

The lilies had up to 80 percent possession in the first half and dominated the game.

Würzburg did well, but has to wait for the second win of the season.

Trares used all of his available field players on the bench with a double substitution in the 75th minute.

Substitute keeper Eric Verstappen actually came on as an outfield player in added time.

With just four points, the non-relegation places for Würzburg are already a long way off.
