Covid-19: Mali orders several closures to stem the rise in cases

"State of emergency" for ten days, "state of health alert" for six months .. A Council of Ministers was held on Friday, December 18 in Mali to discuss the situation considered worrying of the Covid-19 epidemic.

Relatively spared, with 6,049 officially registered cases and 211 deaths since the start of the crisis, the country is experiencing an upsurge in contamination.

With more than 150 new cases a day since early December, hospitals in Bamako are saturated.

With these measures, the government wants to try to stem the increase in the number of cases.

The "state of health alert" will come into force on Saturday, December 19 at midnight in Mali.

Festivals and cultural performances will be suspended for the next two weeks.

Shopping streets and places of leisure, such as bars, restaurants and nightclubs, will be completely closed until January 4.

The markets will remain open.

Another closure announced: that of schools - primary schools, colleges and high schools - until January 10.

Gatherings will be limited to 50 people, including weddings, baptisms and funerals.

Controls at land and air borders will be stepped up.

All these measures obviously do not replace the application of barrier gestures.

The government has also invited the population to respect them as strictly as possible.

Committees to monitor and monitor these barrier gestures will be set up.
