Washington has granted an emergency license to use the moderna anti-corona virus vaccine, and while senior US officials have taken doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, the epidemic continues to cause record deaths and injuries in the United States.

Just before dawn today, Saturday, Mecca time (Friday evening, Washington time), the US Food and Drug Administration agreed to grant a license for the emergency use of the American company Moderna vaccine, which is the first license for this vaccine in the world.

Earlier, the management advisory committee voted in favor of granting the Moderna vaccine a mandate for emergency use, after a week of green light similar to the vaccine developed by the US company Pfizer and its German partner Biontech.

This federal agency had published a report indicating that the effectiveness of the Moderna vaccine reached 94%, according to the data produced by the tests, which is almost the same as the effectiveness of the combined American-German vaccine.

Moderna vaccine, like the Pfizer-Bionic vaccine, depends on the body injecting particles from the virus's genetic material to train the immune system to respond to it.

Moderna said that the European Commission has purchased an additional 80 million doses of its vaccine, bringing the Commission’s total order to 160 million, adding that the first shipments of the vaccine will arrive in European countries in early 2021.

While the outgoing US President Donald Trump expressed his happiness with the news, the President of the Food and Drug Administration, Stephen Hahn, said that with two vaccines now available to prevent the Corona virus, his administration has taken another decisive step in combating this epidemic.

This step comes while the United States is witnessing a record increase in the number of deaths, at a rate that has exceeded in the past few days 3 thousand deaths per day, and more than 200 thousand infections, amid an overcrowding of patients with the virus in hospitals, as is the case in California.

Last Monday, the US authorities launched a vaccination campaign against the virus, and according to experts, controlling the epidemic becomes possible if up to 70% of the population of any country is vaccinated.

Doses for officials

Meanwhile, US President-elect Joe Biden and his wife are due to receive the Pfizer-Bionic vaccine next Monday.

His spokeswoman said Biden and his wife, Jill, would receive the shot publicly "to send a clear message to the public that the vaccine is safe," while Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and her husband would receive the vaccine after Christmas.

In turn, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi received the first dose of the vaccine, and Pelosi posted photos of her on Twitter during the vaccination process.

Members of the US Senate and Representatives - including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell - also received an anti-Corona virus vaccine.

The vaccinations also included Mike Pence, US Vice President, Public Health Authority Chairman Jerome Adams, and a number of members of the US administration.

Pence described the vaccine as a medical miracle, saying that the authorities would provide the vaccine to nearly 28 million Americans before the end of this month.

The “COVAX” initiative stated that it had obtained nearly two billion doses of Corona vaccines, indicating that it would distribute them to poor and middle-income countries in the first quarter of next year.
