Berlin (dpa) - Alba Berlin celebrated an important victory in the basketball Bundesliga.

On Saturday evening, second in the table in front of empty ranks in their own hall beat ratiopharm Ulm, who had been unbeaten until then, with 93:83 (51:41).

For the German champions it was the sixth victory in the seventh game.

The best throwers from Berlin were captain Niels Giffey and Luke Sikma with 17 points.

Playmaker Peyton Siva retired with suspected hamstring.

With the Berliners, the Italian Simone Fontecchio made his comeback after several weeks of injury.

Alba started with a lot of momentum, scored three three-point throws and after a good two minutes was already 11-2 ahead.

After a break, however, the guests increased their intensity and toughness.

The Berliners now had problems creating good throwing positions.

And Ulm came up again.

At the beginning of the second quarter, the guests took the lead for the first time in the fast-paced game.

In the middle of the section, however, Alba went to work more concentrated and more intense and took the lead back with a 14-0 run.

After almost 17 minutes, the lead was double-digit for the first time (41:31).

Even after the break, it remained an intense game.

Alba initially played more dominantly, but was able to break away to 19 points (71:52).

But Ulm fought its way back.

In the final phase, the lead had melted to six points.

But the hosts brought the lead to the finish.
