Bochum (dpa) - Thanks to Thomas Eisfeld, VfL Bochum has returned to a direct promotion place in the 2nd Bundesliga.

The team of coach Thomas Reis celebrated the third home win in a row a week after the 0: 2 in Hanover on Friday evening with the deserved 3: 0 (2: 0) against the promoted rivals 1. FC Heidenheim.

Eisfeld, who had been substituted on shortly before, scored in stoppage time with a free kick to the final score (90 + 2 minutes) and pushed Bochum past Hamburger SV thanks to the better goal difference.

Danny Blum (17th) and Simon Zoller (33rd) had previously met.

The hosts were the dominant team, especially in the first half, they were more mentally present, uncompromising and more willing to take risks.

After conquering the ball in the opponent's penalty area, Blum took a shelf directly and hit the right inner post from 25 meters, from where the ball went into the goal.

The 2-0 win was painful for Zoller because his chest slipped against the post after Gerrit Holtmann's cross and direct acceptance.

The ex-Cologne was able to continue.

The guests, where coach Frank Schmidt brought four new players into the starting line-up, became more compelling after the break.

Christian Kühlwetter, three times goalscorer in the 3-2 win against HSV, failed with a crossbar shot (51st).

Substitute Tobias Mohr (75th) had the same bad luck.
