Essen (dpa) - The energy company RWE has received the green light for another wind farm off the German North Sea coast.

The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) has granted approval for the Kaskasi wind farm 35 kilometers north of Helgoland, RWE reported on Friday.

The system with a total of 38 wind turbines is to be connected to the power grid in summer 2022.

With an output of 342 megawatts, Kaskasi could theoretically supply around 400,000 households per year with green electricity.

Kaskasi will be RWE's sixth wind farm off the German coasts of the North and Baltic Seas. A large part of the investments of one billion euros planned in Germany from 2020 to 2022 will go into its construction, RWE said. According to their own statements, the Essen company is the second largest operator of offshore wind farms worldwide. Off the British coast they are involved in the construction of a significantly larger wind farm with 857 megawatts.
