Munich (dpa) - The corporate mood in Germany brightened in December despite new corona restrictions.

The Ifo business climate, Germany's most important economic indicator, rose by 1.2 points to 92.1 points compared to the previous month, as the Ifo Institute in Munich announced.

Analysts, however, had expected a deterioration to an average of 90.0 points.

The Corona lockdown hits individual industries hard, commented Ifo President Clemens Fuest.

"The German economy as a whole is showing itself to be resilient."

The companies surveyed rated both the current situation and the prospects for the next six months as better.

In the sectors examined, the business climate brightened except for construction, where it stagnated.
