Potsdam (dpa / bb) - At the turn of the year, the Brandenburg Fire Brigade Association relies on the citizens' insight under lockdown and corona measures and does not fear any attacks.

"The hope is that the citizens will adhere to the ban on firecrackers and heed the anti-corona regulations," said Werner-Siegwart Schippel, President of the Brandenburg State Fire Brigade Association, on request.

Maybe the New Year's Eve will even be a little quieter than in previous years.

"We do not expect attacks on firefighters," said Schippel.

The public order offices and the police are responsible for enforcing regulatory measures or breaking up groups.

The Brandenburg firefighters are ready for action as every year.

"I am not aware of any fire brigade member in Brandenburg who has canceled the service in connection with Corona," he emphasized.

96 percent of the firefighters are members of volunteer firefighters.

The German fire brigade union fears nationwide more violence against emergency services on New Year's Eve.

This year there are restrictions in many places, such as bans on firecrackers, which could cause angry reactions, it said.

Nationwide, there have been repeated attacks on emergency services on New Year's Eve in recent years.

Forces from the fire and rescue services would come to help and save lives.

Be prepared for that.

"Not to violence, assaults and brutal attacks," said union chairman Siegfried Maier.
