There are more people who die than are born in Härjedalen.
This is the biggest reason why the municipality's population figures have declined in the last ten years.
If you just count the net move, there are more people who settle in Härjedalen than who leave.
Åre vs Härjedalen
Härjedalen is, like Åre, a mountain municipality with a large number of ski resorts and an outdoor life that attracts many tourists.
But when Åre has grown by over 1700 people for ten years, Härjedalen has backed down.
But there are natural explanations for that, says Härjedalen's growth manager Jonas Kojan.
- Above all, the infrastructure.
We do not have a railway in Härjedalen for example, Åre also has commuting distance to Östersund.
But we have a close collaboration with Åre and hope to learn many lessons from them how we can also work with moving in.
