Hamburg (dpa) - Second division soccer club FC St. Pauli has reported a deficit of 557,000 in its annual report for the 2019/20 season.

Club boss Oke Göttlich announced this group loss at the online general meeting in Hamburg on Thursday evening.

"Like many other companies, FC St. Pauli is severely affected by the corona pandemic," said Göttlich about the deficit.

After eight years with profits in the economic balance sheet, the club was back in the red.

In 2018/19 there was a group-wide profit of 1.56 million euros.

Mainly due to the effects of the pandemic - the empty ranks alone bring the club a minus of 700,000 to 750,000 euros per home game - the income is significantly lower than planned.

In the current financial year, the association expects an even greater minus of five to six million euros.

After all: The equity in the group as of June 30th was 13.5 million euros.

After the corona-related cancellation of the general meeting, which was actually planned for November 15, FC St. Pauli had to enable a meeting this year according to the statutes.

«We are aware that many members do not want an online event.

But the only alternative is to meet our statutory obligations, ”said the club.

In order to meet the wish of the members for a face-to-face event with the possibility of personal exchange, this mandatory meeting will be supplemented with an extraordinary general meeting on May 2, 2021 in the Millerntor Stadium, it said.
