Düsseldorf / Munich (dpa) - The name promises a top political meeting of a special kind: Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) is said to be a “star guest” at the CDU North Rhine-Westphalia New Year's reception in 2021.
As the German press agency in Düsseldorf found out, the CSU boss will speak on January 9th at the invitation of CDU state party leader Armin Laschet in the CDU association with the largest number of members.
Because of the corona pandemic, a digital New Year's reception is planned for the first time in NRW.
Söder and Laschet are considered possible competitors for the 2021 candidate for chancellor - however, Söder has not yet got his hat into the ring.
Despite all speculations, the relationship between Laschet and Söder is considered good.
Laschet will present a Söder biography this Friday - the CSU boss again presented a Laschet biography in September.
Laschet's regional association is happy to invite prominent guests to the New Year's reception: This year, the head of the union IG Bergbau, Chemie, Energie, Michael Vassiliadis, was the guest speaker.
In 2017 it was the then Saarland Prime Minister and later CDU leader Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer.
