Putin accuses Washington of starting a new arms race

The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, accused the United States yesterday of starting a new arms race, and said that Moscow had to develop super-sonic weapons, in response.

In response to a question about the danger of a new arms race, Putin said during his annual press conference, "It is already happening, and this is clear."

And Putin had previously urged Washington to agree to extend the New START agreement to limit armaments for a year, which is the last remaining agreement that preserves the nuclear balance between the two countries, and expires in February.

And he expressed his belief that the US President-elect, Joe Biden, will open a dialogue in this regard.
