Nordenham / Oldenburg (dpa / lni) - New company cars, company cell phones and a new coffee machine - the police station in Nordenham can afford it because it has inherited 244,000 euros.

A citizen of the city on the Unterweser died in 2018 and left his fortune to the local police.

The Oldenburg police department announced on Thursday.

The man was not a police officer.

Legally, according to the information, it was not that easy to take over the inheritance.

The high sum must not go into current expenses.

"The money will not be used to relieve the state budget, but will only benefit the police in Nordenham," said Police President Johann Kühme.

The workforce there, together with the Lower Saxony State Office for Construction and Real Estate (NLBL), considered which special purchases could be made.

Two civilian emergency vehicles are to be bought: new furniture, cell phones and tablets and a fully automatic coffee machine.

It is also planned to set up a sports room with fitness equipment in the building.

The donor should be remembered with a plaque in the police station.
