Berlin (dpa) - The Berlin public prosecutor's office is investigating Attila Hildmann on suspicion of incitement to hatred, insults and threats.

The prosecution announced on Twitter on Thursday that it was about a large number of public statements on social networks and demonstrations.

Hildmann calls himself “ultra right” and a conspiracy preacher.

Cell phones, computers, hard drives and memory cards could now be evaluated, it said.

The evidence was first secured preventively during a search at Hildmann, now the district court of Berlin-Tiergarten has ordered the seizure, said public prosecutor's spokesman Martin Steltner.

In the next week, the State Criminal Police Office will begin the examination on behalf of the public prosecutor's office.

In November, Berlin's Justice Senator Dirk Behrendt (Greens) announced that the investigations against Hildmann, who was formerly known as a vegan cookbook author, would be bundled in Berlin.

This was justified with an effective criminal prosecution.

Several preliminary investigations from Brandenburg had been handed over to the Berlin authorities.

Hildmann's apartment in Brandenburg was also searched.

The 39-year-old appeared repeatedly in protests against the corona protective measures.

According to the Berlin public prosecutor's office, it should be clarified whether and to what extent Attila Hildmann could have exceeded the limits of freedom of expression through his statements and made himself liable to prosecution.
