17 December 2020 "The Christmas lockout is inevitable if we want to avoid the third wave".

Thus the Gimbe Foundation in its weekly monitoring relating to the period from 9 to 5 December.

The foundation stresses that "the descent of infections is too slow, the hospitals are still saturated, the deaths in the last month are over 20,000".

Monitoring confirms a slight slowdown in the growth of new cases, overestimated by a further decline in tampons.

The pressure on hospitals decreases, but the medical area and intensive care units remain above the saturation threshold in 10 and 14 regions respectively.

The number of deaths continues to rise.

"In the face of these numbers - underlines Gimbe, as reported by the Agi - the (in) political decisions are at the mercy of government-regional conflicts, party compromises and emotional reactions, rather than being informed by a strategic plan to protect health, concretely support the economy and manage the social consequences of the pandemic. Government and regions cannot limit themselves to fearing the third wave, they must contain it ".

In the week 9-15 December, compared to the previous one, there was a decrease in new cases (113.182 vs 136.493), compared to a reduction of over 88 thousand cases tested (462.645 vs 551.068) and a stable positive / tested cases ratio ( 24.5% vs 24.8%).
