What drove him to this act, the 27-year-old defendant in the trial of the stolen laptop of the former HSV chairman Bernd Hoffmann before the district court of Altona could no longer say.

He is "100,000 percent" HSV fan.

That this club love protects against punishment seems unlikely.

In their plea on Thursday, the public prosecutor's office saw it as proven that the multiple criminal record was guilty of stolen goods and attempted extortion, and demanded a prison sentence of one year and one month without parole.

Hoffmann, who has not worked for HSV since March, did not have to testify.

Since the original defense attorney did not appear, a replacement attorney had to be organized.

All witnesses were therefore dismissed.

The defense pleading and the verdict are due to follow on December 22nd.

The currently unemployed defendant, who previously worked as a tiler and in a phone shop, admitted the allegations in full.

The laptop that Hoffmann had stolen in an ICE in January was offered to him for sale by a stranger for 300 euros at the Neumünster train station.

At first he didn't know who owned the computer.

Only when the connection to HSV became clear to him did he contact Hoffmann to ask for 4000 and then 5000 euros for the return.

At the agreed handover at the Volksparkstadion, during which the ex-HSV boss was used as a decoy by the previously informed police, the defendant was arrested.

“I don't know what ridden me,” said the married father of two children in court.

If his cell phone were "gambled" and later offered again for a cash payment, he would think: "Is your helmet burning?" In retrospect, he is "infinitely sorry" for the act.

Lots of criminal records - suspended sentences are out of the question

During the trial, a recording of a telephone conversation between Hoffmann and the defendant was played.

When Hoffmann asked whether he was a HSV or St. Pauli fan, the defendant replied: "100,000 percent HSV".

Almost in jest, Hoffmann then offered two tickets for a possible promotion game for Hamburg.

The public prosecutor's office recognized the full confession of the 27-year-old, who could not identify the alleged thief of the laptop in a photo.

Because of the large number of his previous convictions, including multiple insults and bodily harm, a suspended sentence would not be an option.
