The Minister of Higher Education, Frédérique Vidal, has set herself the goal of being able to bring students back to universities from the start of the January academic year.

But this return will be gradual and will begin with the most fragile audiences, who will be the priority.

The students finally see the end of the tunnel after being deprived of university benches due to the coronavirus crisis, and having contented themselves with videoconference lessons.

The Minister of Higher Education, Frédérique Vidal, has in fact set herself the objective of returning to the classroom from the start of the school year, on January 4.

Only this return should be done gradually and will not concern all the students at the same time.

Case by case considered

The idea of the executive is to bring back the most vulnerable as a priority, to then try to accommodate everyone in early February, if sanitary conditions allow.

And it will be up to university presidents to identify these fragile audiences: students with disabilities, international students at risk of dropping out, the first years or even young people affected by the digital divide could for example be concerned.

The majority of university presidents contacted by Europe 1 claim to be able to do it on a case-by-case basis quite easily, by crossing information from health services on campuses as well as from the administration.

Others also explain that they will choose to favor students according to their promotion, namely the first years who do not really know how university works and may find themselves for some very isolated.

But at the start of the school year, the situations in the faculties promise to be very different, especially since many will still be in exam period until mid-January.
