Mainz (dpa / lrs) - After the ruling by the Constitutional Court of Rhineland-Palatinate on the municipal financial equalization, the CDU parliamentary group has called for immediate aid of 500 million euros for cities, municipalities and districts.

The parliamentary group chairman Christian Baldauf also announced on Thursday that a group of experts would be set up to present “cornerstones and guard rails” for the “task-based and needs-oriented financial equalization” demanded by the court.

"After all, we would like to rule from May 18th," said Baldauf with a view to the state elections on March 14th.

Baldauf spoke of a "shame" and sharply criticized Prime Minister Malu Dreyer, the interior minister responsible for the municipalities Roger Lewentz and finance minister Doris Ahnen (all SPD).

One day before the verdict, the state government said in “a complete denial of reality that everything was in order” with the financial resources of the municipalities, said Baldauf, referring to the final consultation on the state budget for 2021 on Tuesday.

The funds for the special payment demanded by the CDU as a direct consequence of the judgment would have to be taken from the budgets of the individual departments or from the country's high financial reserves.

"The constitutional breach has many faces," said the local political spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group, Gordon Schnieder.

«Especially Dreyer, Ahnen, Lewentz.

And they duck away. "

It is significant that “the Christmas present for the local authorities does not come from the country, but from the Constitutional Court”.

After the verdict, the state government announced that it would begin work on a new legal basis for financial equalization quickly and seek talks with the municipalities.
