Düsseldorf (AP) - The German record champions Borussia Düsseldorf has reached the final of the table tennis Champions League.

In the one-week tournament format in their own hall, Timo Boll's team won their semi-finals on Thursday against the Russian club UMMC Yekaterinburg 3-2.

The record European champion Boll won his first individual against the Croatian Tomislav Pucar, but then lost to the Dane Jonathan Groth despite several match points.

In the decisive fifth match, Düsseldorf's Swedish national player Kristian Karlsson won 3-0 sets against Pucar.

The final opponent (Friday, 8.30 p.m.) will be determined between 1. FC Saarbrücken and the Russian tournament favorites, Fakel Orenburg.

Because of the corona pandemic, the Champions League season will be played in just eight days in Düsseldorf's Arag CenterCourt.

The hosts have already won 15 international titles in their history: five times the Champions League, six times the previous European Cup of national champions and four times the ETTU Cup.
