Osnabrück (dpa / lni) - With a large-scale operation, investigators took action on Thursday against criminal clan structures in the Osnabrück region.

The public prosecutor in Osnabrück announced that three suspects had been arrested.

There is a risk of blackout and the investigators also want to prevent possible escape attempts.

The three arrested were to be brought before a judge later that day.

During the raid since the early hours of the morning, officials searched a total of 21 residential and commercial properties in Ostercappeln, Peine and Osnabrück.

The aim was to seize cash, weapons and high-powered luxury vehicles.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the background to the operation is a case against a total of four suspects, three of whom can be assigned to so-called clan crime.

Through their actions, the accused are said to have obtained stolen property in the form of tools, electronic items and cash in the amount of almost 100,000 euros.

"The allegations against members of criminal clans weigh heavily: Among other things, it is about extortionate kidnapping, heavy predatory extortion, robbery, burglary and fraud on a large scale," said Justice Minister Barbara Havliza (CDU).

The use shows how useful it is for specialized investigators to work on these cases.
