Munich (dpa / lby) - Bavaria pulls the ripcord: A good week before Christmas Eve, the Free State brakes public life with a hard lockdown.

No more shopping trips in jam-packed city centers, no more jostling in overcrowded school buses, everyone should stay at home at night if possible.

With the drastic measures, the state government wants to stop the rampant corona virus.

Because the health system is groaning under the many Covid 19 patients in the clinics.

The authorities have been overloaded for months and in many places have long been unable to call all the contacts of an infected person.

As the last of the 16 federal states and at the very last minute, the Free State published the new Corona regulation shortly before midnight, which will initially apply until January 10th.

There should be easing only on the Christmas holidays.

It is uncertain whether schools, daycare centers, zoos, restaurants, retail outlets, etc. will be allowed to reopen after the Christmas holidays.

Because if the number of infected people does not decrease significantly, the lockdown could be extended beyond January 10th.

50 infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week is a guideline from which the health authorities are again able to trace contacts and order appropriate infection protection measures.

In Bavaria, this so-called incidence value is currently more than 200.

Therefore, from this Wednesday on, many shops are now closed.

Only dealers with everyday goods such as grocery stores, beverage stores, health food stores, drugstores, opticians, hearing aid acousticians, but also petrol stations, car workshops or dry cleaners are allowed to open.

Only food can be sold at weekly markets.

If you couldn't make an appointment at the hairdresser quickly, you have to wait until January 11th for the next haircut.

In addition to hairdressers, there are now also massage practices, cosmetic studios and tattoo studios.

Only medically necessary treatments, such as physiotherapy or podiatry, are possible.

The following also applies: If you cannot present a valid reason such as a doctor's visit, shopping or work, you are no longer allowed to leave your own apartment during the day.

Exercise in the fresh air and meeting other household members are allowed - no more than five people in total, not including children under 14 years of age.

And: between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., staying in public spaces is only permitted for a few compelling reasons.

In the event of violations, hefty fines await.

On January 28, 2020, an infection with the corona virus was confirmed for the first time in Bavaria.

Because more and more people became infected afterwards, far-reaching exit restrictions came into force on March 21.

Little by little, shops and restaurants had to close, daycare centers, schools and universities were closed, playgrounds were closed, and recreational sports with friends were taboo.

In the summer the situation relaxed.

However, the number of infected people has been increasing significantly for several weeks.

On November 2, a partial lockdown began in Bavaria in order to slow down the spread of the corona virus.

But the measures were not enough, hence the more drastic cuts in public life.
