Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In North Rhine-Westphalia, the corona numbers remain high.

In seven days, 172.5 people per 100,000 inhabitants in the state were infected with the virus, according to statistics from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Wednesday morning.

This value rose slightly compared to Tuesday and was slightly below the national average of almost 180.

When dealing with the pandemic, the so-called seven-day incidence has a value of 50 as a warning threshold for introducing tougher measures - this threshold has long been broken.

In order to achieve it again, public life across Germany was drastically reduced on Wednesday.

According to the RKI, a total of 326 681 corona infections have been detected in NRW so far.

From Tuesday to Wednesday, 4630 were added.

In the most populous federal state, 4,786 people died from or with the virus - here the number rose by 171.
