Zerbst (dpa / sa) - Spawning salmon and sea trout continue to return to the Nuthe.

During the trial fishing in Zerbst on Wednesday three sea trout and one salmon were detected, said Steffen Zahn from the Institute for Inland Fisheries.

He was satisfied with the result for a chance find.

The animals have already spawned, so they are moving back towards the sea.

The trial fishing is part of the migratory fish program Saxony-Anhalt.

For eleven years the Institute for Inland Fisheries has been working as the lead institution to reintroduce migratory fish in the Nuthe and thus make the river usable for fishing, among other things.

As was the case last at the end of October, young fish are regularly released.

So far, according to information, around 163,500 young salmon and 110,300 sea trout hatchlings have been released in the Nuthe. The migratory fish change their habitat to spawn. It usually takes two to four years for the animals to return to the area.
