Heroldsberg (dpa / lby) - Unknown people blew up an ATM in Heroldsberg in the Erlangen-Höchstadt district.

As the police announced on Wednesday, several emergency calls were received during the night from concerned residents who had heard loud popping noises.

When the police arrived on site, the unknown perpetrators had already fled.

These could steal an initially unknown amount of cash.

According to the police, a gas explosion is assumed.

The criminal police are investigating.

ATMs are repeatedly blown up in Bavaria. According to the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) in Munich, criminals have been able to steal more than 1.4 million euros in Bavaria alone since the beginning of the year. 18 machines were blown up by mid-November. This means that the number of machines blown up is at a similar level as in 2019.
