Heidelberg (dpa / lsw) - A suspected organizer of frauds to the detriment of the elderly has to answer today (9:00 am) before the Heidelberg district court.

According to the indictment, he was a member of a group operating from abroad whose members, as police officers, wanted to gain access to the assets of senior citizens.

In one case, a woman from Heidelberg was contacted by phone by an alleged police officer.

A gang of burglars was up to mischief in their vicinity and their name was discovered on a piece of paper, the burglars also cooperated with bank employees - according to the prosecution, this was how they had been frightened.

In order to protect all of her property, she had to hand it over to the police.

In a first tranche, according to the public prosecutor, she handed over 22,000 euros in good faith to a courier selected by the defendant, which was immediately forwarded to Turkey.

But she should be fleeced even more.

When she wanted to exchange securities for 150,000 for gold at her bank, she aroused suspicion among the staff and received imitations instead of real gold.

According to the indictment, a courier selected by the defendant was arrested at the time of handover.

The 27-year-old has been charged with gang fraud.

Pleadings and judgment (Ref .: 2 KLs 430 Js 8444/20) are expected on Wednesday.
