Hamburg (dpa / lno) - Employees from private, non-profit and church hospitals in Hamburg have drawn attention to their enormous workload in the corona pandemic.

"The colleagues are at the absolute limit," said an employee of the Asklepios Klinik St. Georg on Wednesday.

The employees felt “burned out” and left alone.

"Many of us haven't visited our parents for months."

This is done out of fear of infecting relatives.

Many operations continued despite treatment for Covid-19 patients.

An employee in an intensive care unit in the Asklepios Klinik Wandsbek reported at a press conference of the Hamburg hospital movement that protective clothing was missing.

"Sometimes it was a gamble whether you could even get a mask," she said.

Gowns are permeable to water, gloves sometimes tear open as soon as they are put on.

Other employees also described the sometimes chaotic conditions in the Hamburg clinics and spoke of a staff shortage.

The Hamburg hospital movement criticized the fact that Hamburg's mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) had canceled an invitation to speak with a one-liner.

A moderator said the situation at the hospitals was getting worse and that politicians had not made any preparations for the second wave.

The Amalie Sieveking Hospital, meanwhile, canceled its emergency and accident care up to and including December 28th “due to an extraordinarily high occupancy rate with patients suffering from Covid-19”.

Unfortunately, already planned treatments could not take place, the hospital wrote on its website on Wednesday.

All emergencies requiring inpatient treatment would be forwarded to other emergency hospitals.

However, outpatient emergency care takes place.

The NDR had previously reported on it.
