Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The corona pandemic spoiled business for hotels and pensions in North Rhine-Westphalia even before the current lockdown.

In October, the number of overnight stays was 41.2 percent lower than a year earlier, as the State Statistical Office announced on Wednesday.

While the number of overnight stays fell by more than half at the hotels, there was an increase of 29.6 percent at the campsites.

From the beginning of the year to October around 10.4 million guests stayed in the accommodation establishments and on campsites in North Rhine-Westphalia.

That was 48.9 percent fewer visitors than in the same period last year.

At 26.3 million, the number of overnight stays was 41.5 percent lower than a year earlier.
