Bremen (dpa / lni) - The Bremen Evangelical Church (BEK) has temporarily dismissed a pastor convicted of sedition.

Pastor Olaf Latzel rejected a mutual agreement on Wednesday to suspend his service after consulting his defense lawyer, said church spokeswoman Sabine Hatscher.

Thereupon he was given the notice of his temporary dismissal.

Several media had previously reported on this.

The Bremen district court sentenced the conservative 53-year-old pastor, who heads a parish in Bremen, to a fine of 8,100 euros on November 25 for derogatory statements about homosexuality (Az .: 96 Ds 225 Js 26577/20).

Latzel appealed the judgment.

The district court must now decide on it.

As long as the proceedings are ongoing, disciplinary proceedings at the BEK remain suspended.
