December 15, 2020 The Food and Drug Administration has granted emergency clearance to market the first over-the-counter antigen test that can be used at home.

The test produced by Ellume offers a nasal swab analyzer that connects to a software application on users' smartphones and provides results in 20 minutes.

Anyone over two years of age, including those who show no symptoms, can get tested, the US agency said.

The news follows last month's approval of the first prescription Covid-19 test for home use and a non-prescription testing system that allows a laboratory to process nasal samples collected at home last week. .
