The Belgian prime minister held talks via videoconference with ex-presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya.

“Belgium and the European Union support the people of Belarus in striving for a democratic society where fundamental rights are respected and there is no place for violence,” de Croo wrote on Twitter following the talks.

He stressed that the EU will continue to put pressure on the Belarusian authorities "so that they start a dialogue that deserves trust."

Earlier, the European Union imposed sanctions against President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
