Splendid Comfortable Life

On February 14, 2015, Yangjialing Fuzhou Hope Primary School in Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province welcomed a special and familiar guest.

Under the winter sunshine, General Secretary Xi Jinping, who is currently working in Shaanxi, came here on a special trip to observe the school's running situation and have a cordial exchange with teachers.

This is the second time General Secretary Xi Jinping has come to Yangjialing Fuzhou Hope Primary School. Before this, he had also communicated with the principal and students of this school.

Two letters that span a long time but are still full of affection are prominently displayed in the school bulletin board.

One of the letters was signed on March 4, 1995.

At that time, Xi Jinping, then secretary of the Fuzhou Municipal Party Committee of Fujian Province, initiated the "Thousands of Enterprises to Build a Thousand Schools" charity activity.

All employees of a company in Fuzhou donated 520,000 yuan to rebuild the Yanan Yangjialing Primary School, which was built in 1974.

In March of that year, Xi Jinping wrote a letter to the school principal.

He said in the letter: "I am very happy to have the opportunity to establish contact with you through donating to build Hope Primary Schools. Helping the old and impoverished areas develop education and solve the problem of students’ enrollment difficulties is an important way to achieve common prosperity, and it is also an alleviation of poverty in the new era. A meaningful content of work."

On May 21, 2008, the children of Yangjialing Fuzhou Hope Primary School wrote to the then Vice President Xi Jinping, reporting on their donations to children in Wenchuan disaster area and their daily learning and living conditions.

After 10 days, they received a reply.

In the letter, Xi Jinping encouraged them to carry forward the Yan'an spirit, study diligently, grow up healthy, and strive to become successors to the cause of socialism.

In November 2009, Xi Jinping visited teachers and students in Yangjialing Primary School during his inspection work in Shaanxi.

A group photo at that time has been hanging in the campus window.

In 2015, Yangjialing Fuzhou Hope Primary School once again welcomed General Secretary Xi Jinping.

When he was about to leave school, the general secretary told everyone that education is very important.

In order to get rid of poverty and become rich in old revolutionary areas and poor areas, education must be carried out from the ground up, and children must not be left at the starting line.

The state's funds will be tilted toward education, toward basic education, and toward basic education in old revolutionary areas.

The words conveyed the general secretary's heavy concern about education in old revolutionary areas and poverty-stricken areas.

To allow children in poor areas to receive a good education, General Secretary Xi Jinping thinks deeply and thinks deeply about this.

He once talked about the Matthew effect in education in an article: the poorer the place, the harder it is to do education, but the poorer the place, the more education is needed, and the poorer it is, the poorer it is.

"This Matthew effect is actually a vicious circle where'poor' and'stupid' are mutually cause and effect." Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, General Secretary Xi Jinping has always cared about the poor, and education for poverty alleviation is his focus. .

The first guarantee in the "two no worries and three guarantees" is "compulsory education"; the "five batches" project, and the "developing education to alleviate poverty" is among them.

In December 2012, General Secretary Xi Jinping said when inspecting poverty alleviation and development work in Fuping County, Hebei Province: “Poverty should be tackled first. Education of the next generation must be done well, especially the growth of the next generation in impoverished mountainous areas. For the next generation to live a good life, they must first have a culture, so that their future development will be completely different."

On April 15, 2019, General Secretary Xi Jinping had a cordial conversation with teachers and students at Zhongyi Township Primary School in Shizhu Tujia Autonomous County to learn about the guarantee of compulsory education.

In April 2019, Xi Jinping came to Shizhu Tujia Autonomous County in Chongqing, deep in the mountains.

When presided over a symposium on solving the outstanding issues of “two no worries and three guarantees”, he specifically asked about the wages of rural teachers, and pointed out: “The key to rural revitalization and sustainable development lies in education. It is necessary to maintain the stability of the teaching team and the children in the countryside Can't lose at the starting line."

"'Two no worries and three guarantees', a very important one is that compulsory education must be guaranteed. No matter how hard it is, no child can be miserable, no matter how poor it is, no education is poor. It is necessary to ensure that children in poor mountainous areas go to school and have a happy childhood."

General Secretary Xi Jinping came to Laoxian Town, Pinli County, Ankang City, Shaanxi Province on April 21, 2020, and inspected the local poverty alleviation situation in Jinping community, town health center, central elementary school and tea garden.

In April 2020, during an inspection in Shaanxi, Xi Jinping walked into the classroom of the Central Primary School in Laoxian Town, Pinli County, Ankang City, and asked the children about their study and living conditions.

He emphasized that it is necessary to promote the integrated development of urban and rural compulsory education, reduce the gap between urban and rural education resources, promote educational equity, and cut off the intergenerational transmission of poverty.

  Poverty alleviation must help wisdom.

Letting children in poverty-stricken areas receive a good education is an important task of poverty alleviation and development, and it is also an important way to block the intergenerational transmission of poverty.

As of the end of 2019, the number of students who dropped out of compulsory education in 832 national-level poverty-stricken counties across the country has been reduced from 290,000 at the beginning of the establishment of the ledger to 23,000. Among them, the number of poor students from families with registered cards has been reduced from 150,000 to 6,000.

The running conditions of 99.8% of compulsory education schools (including teaching sites) across the country have met the requirements of the "20 bottom lines", and the running conditions of compulsory education schools in poor areas have improved significantly.

"The ancients had the tradition of'family poor children studying'. Training children from impoverished areas is the fundamental poverty alleviation policy."

In the mind of General Secretary Xi Jinping, getting rid of poverty is not to get rid of material poverty, but to get rid of poverty of consciousness and thinking.

This is also the important guiding ideology of my country's poverty alleviation work.
