Officials had noticed a truck driving in a serpentine line near Braunschweig, as the police announced on Tuesday.
A patrol led the 41-year-old from the A2 on Monday afternoon.
When leaving the driver's cab, the man swayed so much that the officers took an alcohol test.
Since this showed a value of around 4.9 per mille, they arranged for a blood test.
The driver expects a criminal complaint for drunk driving.
The keys to the truck and the man's driver's license were collected.
