Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - After heavy losses due to canceled events in the corona pandemic, Messe Düsseldorf expects a double-digit million loss in the coming year.

After a supervisory board meeting, the company announced on Tuesday evening that short-time working would initially be extended until the end of March.

In addition, positions should not be filled for the time being and fixed-term contracts should expire.

The investments, which in the current year amounted to almost 36 million euros instead of the planned 70 million euros, would be reduced to a minimum of 10.5 million euros in 2021.

According to the published key figures, the turnover of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH slumped by 65.4 percent to 118.9 million euros this year.

After a profit of over 50 million euros in the previous year, this time there is a loss of 64.7 million euros.

The equity ratio remains at a high level at 54.8 percent (previous year 64 percent).

According to its own information, Messe Düsseldorf GmbH expects sales of 107.3 million euros and a loss of 77 million euros for the 2021 financial year.

The business areas would be expanded to include digital formats.

"We rely on hybrid trade fairs - a mix of physical on-site events and digital offers," said the Chairman of the Management Board, Wolfram N. Diener, in a press release.

The “Caravan Salon” trade fair at the beginning of September was the first major German trade fair after the spring restrictions to take place with 107,000 visitors.

One counts on a restart of the trade fair operations at the end of April.

The "boot" was postponed from January to April 17-25, 2021 and dates in February and March such as "ProWein" were canceled.
