Frankfurt / Munich (dpa) - Lufthansa has temporarily suspended its test run with mandatory corona rapid tests.

The process is expected to resume at the end of January, said a spokeswoman in Frankfurt.

The last flight for the time being had previously started in Munich with passengers who had been consistently tested for the corona virus.

The Lufthansa subsidiary Austrian has also ended its series of tests on the Vienna-Berlin connection for the time being.

In November Lufthansa integrated antigen tests into its handling process for the first time and procured 250,000 sets for them.

"In short: it works," the spokeswoman summarized the results.

Now the throughput time would have to be further shortened and the test laboratories would also have to be integrated into the Lufthansa IT system.

According to its own information, Lufthansa tested around 2000 passengers.

For the restart, other airports and routes would also come into question, the spokeswoman announced, without giving details.

Despite the vaccines that are now available, the group is assuming that in the coming year many entries without quarantine will only be possible with a negative corona test.

The rapid antigen tests used do not detect the Covid-19 pathogen as such, but proteins associated with it.

The way it works is similar to a pregnancy test; the results should be available after 30 to 60 minutes.

However, the tests are less accurate than the usual PCR tests.
