Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - After the blockade of a higher radio license fee in Germany, Saxony-Anhalt's FDP has called for concrete reform proposals from the black-red-green state government.

The state parliament only ever deals with public broadcasting when post adjustments are due, and otherwise overslept to give impetus for reform, said the incumbent FDP leader Lydia Hüskens on Tuesday according to a statement.

A debate is needed as to how the offers could be more focused on the segments of news, politics, culture and documentaries and how many channels would then be necessary.

If this process is not started now, the debates of the past weeks will soon be repeated.

The Magdeburg state parliament was actually supposed to vote on a state treaty on Tuesday that would raise the radio license fee for public broadcasters by 86 cents to 18.36 euros per month at the turn of the year.

Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) withdrew the project before the final vote.

This means that the increase is on hold because not all state parliaments will approve by the end of the year.

Haseloff justified his step with the lack of a majority in the state parliament for the increase.

He prevented his CDU from rejecting the contract with the votes of the opposition AfD and saved the future of the coalition.

Like all other countries, the SPD and the Greens wanted to contribute to the contribution plus and had announced that they would terminate the alliance if a CDU-AfD veto.

The broadcasters complain against the blockade to the Federal Constitutional Court.

The FDP does not sit in the state parliament.
