Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Trucks with corona vaccines on board are also allowed to drive in North Rhine-Westphalia on Sundays and public holidays.

A corresponding decree also applies to the transport of other goods that are important for vaccinations, such as cooling systems or medical instruments, a spokesman for the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of Transport told the German press agency on Tuesday.

The exemption is initially limited to June 30, 2021.

Trucks over 7.5 tons are generally not allowed to drive in Germany on Sundays and public holidays from midnight to 10 p.m.

However, there are exceptions, for example for the transport of fresh food.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the new decree also affects goods that are needed for vaccinations.

53 vaccination centers have been operational in NRW since Tuesday. At the end of November, the Ministry of Health assumed that particularly vulnerable groups in the first wave would be vaccinated on site in the homes or their homes - with the teams swarming out of the centers.
