Leipzig (dpa) - 389 new publications have been submitted for the price of the Leipzig Book Fair 2021.

The works come from 132 publishers, as the fair announced on Tuesday.

A jury chaired by literary critic Jens Bisky will now sift through the proposals and draw up a shortlist of five nominees each in the categories of fiction, non-fiction / essay writing and translation.

It is scheduled to be published on April 13, 2021.

The prize should be awarded on May 28 at the book fair.

In addition to Bisky, the jury also includes Tobias Lehmkuhl, Marc Reichwein, Katrin Schumacher, Katharina Teutsch and the new members Anne-Dore Krohn and Andreas Platthaus.

The prize is endowed with a total of 60,000 euros - 15,000 euros each go to the three winners and 1,000 euros each to the nominees.

It is one of the most renowned literary prizes in Germany.

This year, the prize was awarded on a radio broadcast due to the corona-related cancellation of the Leipzig Book Fair at short notice.

The book fair should take place again in 2021.

The date was specially moved from March to the end of May.

From May 27th to 30th, warmer weather should make more outdoor events possible.
